Mentee Application
The Partnership Affecting Change in Teens (PACT) program was established in 2011 by CLBF as part of its “Take Back the Children” campaign aimed at deterring at risk students affected by firearms and urban violence from dropping out. These students are faced with challenging situations that prevent them from fully engaging in school. The program encourages students to stay in school by mentoring. Students are linked with adult mentors who engage them in valuable academic and life skill building activities while also providing counseling, friendship, and nurturing support. Mentors offer academic/career guidance and emphasize the development of leadership, interpersonal, and problem solving skills through teaching and modeling. Mentors work with students for the duration of the school year until they graduate high school or transition into a stable situation that supports continued education/career growth. Youth who are disadvantaged or at risk stand to gain from mentoring. Research shows that mentoring relationships are potentially effective and positive. The longer the men-toring relationship continues, the more positive the outcome.
